Friendships

I think it goes without saying that
You always want your friendships to last.
You constantly cling to the sorry thoughts
And wish to change your unforgiving past

I know in the real world that doesn't happen.
You make promises that you want to keep
You break vows that you thought were forever
And then cant understand what you really seek.

I hoped it wouldn't be that way with us
You said you'd always be my friend
You were the one I thought I trusted
Straight down until the end

And memories are still strong now
They live on in my head
I sit and dream and remember
As I lay there in my bed

I hold your face in the frame
Constructed in my mind
I hope the fantasy lingers on in yours
As the years pass slow in time

I never could quite remember
The exact day when you did leave
It just happened gradually
From my mind, my heart, how unreal.

Not really sad anymore from the betrayal
More confused as to what went wrong
Its funny how you think a friendship
Is oh how very strong
