Ice Cube spells amerika ameriKKKa. What I percieve about his spelling is this: amerika is steeped in racism. Nothing symbolizes racism more so in the U.S. than KKK. amerika to ice cube isn't baseball and apple pie, it's burning crosses and poll tests. If that's how he chooses to see this so called greatest country/super power/free world leader/whatever bullshit tagline we get next, then so be it... my blood colored specs are shaded slightly different.

The America that we are supposed to believe in is a utopia we'll never come close to attaining. What we are supposed to believe in is Ozzie & Harriet, Richie Cunningham, and the town of Mayberry. Neighbors are friends and friends are friends for life. The only setback you'll ever see in America is a moral lesson and the badasses eventually come around to the "right" side. The America you’re supposed to believe in was built by dreamers. It isn’t just idealistic tv programming, it’s greatest assault of propaganda ever launched by those who wish to profit on immigrants and fools believing in the American Dream and all of that other "streets paved with gold" bullshit.

Surely, there are those out there posed to attack with the "it’s not that bad" lecture fueled by a patriotism you could never understand. Save it, because it won’t work. I am a patriot. Like most people, I believe this is the best thing we’ve got going, but I that doesn’t mean I have to salute a culture that wants to think of itself as the best thing since redemption when it’s nothing more than a farce created to keep our heads spinning in a euphoria that is doing nothing but breeding ignorant blowhards who have nothing better to do than bullshit about nothing more meaningful that lost parking space.

Is that the amerika that I’m supposed to love?

All I can say to that is "fuck that."

Let me tell you about the real amerika. The real amerika is based on inequality. Norman Rockwell paintings aren’t the godhead of amerika, inequality is. If it weren’t for inequality, we wouldn’t have to worry about welfare, lousy healthcare, unemployment, and store clerks who can’t keep from following you in the store. Inequality is the ringmaster here and we must all jump every time the whip cracks. Welcome to the county that you worship and love.

I don’t want to worship that idol of America. Being known as an American means that I get harrassed by foriegners I’ve never met who believe that John Wayne still shoots Indians and the Fonz is what gives us a severe cool factor. Furthermore, I don’t want to believe in the anti-amerika because it doesn’t exist. I believe in the anti-America that you all live in. The amerika I believe in is the stereotype that binds us all. It’s not a shakeable charge, it’s a state of mind that holds us all.
